Surgery Mistakes

Free Medical Malpractice Case Review

The idea of under going surgery is never a pleasant one. By its very nature surgery is a complicated and precise endeavor with an extremely small margin for error. Some of the most common surgery mistakes include:

  • Anesthesia errors: anesthesia is far more complicated than most people realize, and small errors in dosage can have grave and potentially life-threatening consequences.
  • Operating on the wrong limb/side of the body: although it is difficult to believe that such a simple mistake could occur in modern medicine, hundreds of people every have the wrong leg, arm, side of body, or even hemisphere of brain operated on.
  • Piercing an organ: internal organs are extremely delicate, and one second's carelessness with a scalpel, laser, or scissors can inflict severe harm on an organ.
  • Severing a nerve: the nervous system runs throughout the entire body, and careless surgeons can sever a nerve that cannot be repaired.
  • Leaving implement in the body: sponges, gauze, forceps, tweezers, any foreign object left in a patient's body can cause severe damage, lacerations, and infection.
  • Failure to take immediate action during crisis: surgery demands doctors think quickly, but if they fail to promptly address a situation such as cardiac arrest, hemorrhaging, or organ failure it can have devastating consequences
  • Failure to use correct procedure during an operation: different operations require different approaches, and if a surgeon fails to prepare the proper procedure beforehand it can be dangerous for the patient.

Furthermore, many surgical mistakes occur because the doctor or surgeon fails to gather a complete medical history of the patient before the procedure.. Other surgery mistakes result from allergic or adverse effects of medication or some equipment.

I had sinus trouble about 15 years ago, I received surgery something went wrong and I continue to this day with surgeries to try a fix my nose, my nose has been distorted since my operation. I just come form my doctor now woh is a new one, he has made the appearance tolerable but is still concerned. I have had six different surgeries. To my knowledge the first doctor did not stitch my nose properly and resulted in the weakening of my nose, in which he placed marlex mesh in my nose to regain it;s strength. I was told that this kond of material is only for chest walls or stomach linings. My skin eventually attached itself to this material. My nose was square and squish. I the tried to fix it with more surgeries to no avail. Is it possible to sue the doctor who did this in the beginning, I have avided functions, family pictures, just about anything I could get out off. I can not get anymore surgeries cause my skin and tissue have too many scars. I have also had a doctor who refused to do my nose because he just did not know where to start. I have loss many opportunties with work cause I have to always wait to see abluot surgery times and I just can\'t bear for people to look at me and wonder if I was in a car accident, just for the sake of sinus trouble. I would greatly appreciate a response form you. Thank you so much for your time. Respectfully Yvonne Lambert

What are the statu of limitations in suing a foot doctor who damaged my feet worse then they were and I tried to have them fixed by another surgeon who told me he would do this as long as I wasn\'t in a case with the other doctor and he would do surgery if I agreed not to sue him which it only turned out unsatisfactory for me. It is the original Dr. that I want to sue and If I\'m correct I had surgery by him in 2000...The surgery has made it hard to wear a hi heel because of the pain and it is very embarressing to show anyone my feet so I can no longer wear open toe shoes...and I hide them all the time with socks or a closed toe shoe.
