One of these classes of antibiotics is known as the fluroquinolone class, which is a group of medications used generally to treat difficult infections, most commonly those that affect the urinary tract in patients. Until this class came about these infections tended to debilitate patients for long periods of time and were quite painful.
Levofloxacin is offered in the market as the brand names Levaquin, Cravit, and Tavanic.
Other brands for the ophthalmic solutions include Oftaquix, Quixin and Iquix.
One of the leading brand medications that has been introduced within this class is known as Levaquin. Levaquin was initially an extremely successful product both in terms of the revenue it produced and the percentage of success it enjoyed with patients. However, Levaquin has also recently come under fire from the FDA along with many other fluroquinolone antibiotics. Side effects of Levaquin inlclude tendon ruptures and other tendon type of injuries.
In July of 2008, the FDA issued a decree that ordered the makers of Levaquin to implement a black box warning addition to the production of the containers of the medication. This is the strongest step the FDA can take short of a recall, and the reason for this step was emerging reports of a startling number of patients developing side effects while or after taking Levaquin.
Hundreds of reports of patients experiencing these adverse effects reached the FDA, which prompted the step the government took. In particular, a ruptured Achilles tendon can take several months to overcome, and that’s only after an invasive and painful surgical and rehabilitative process.
If you are taking or have taken Levaquin and are experiencing any of the following:
Seek immediate medical attention and explain that you are taking Levaquin. It could be advisable to cease its use, but you should only do so at the advice of your doctor. If you or someone you love has been injured as a result of using this medication, contact a Levaquin attorney as soon as possible to schedule a free initial consultation, as you need to obtain an understanding of your legal rights and options.

| I took Levaquin for an infection (the Dr. said was for a respritory infection) about 3 years ago. The first morning I took it I was at work and had severe chest pain within minutes of taking it. I was rushed to the emergency room where I had trouble breathing and blurred vision. I have over the past few years noticed problems with my knee popping and getting stiff and some nerve damage has been detected. I just turned 34 and am otherwise healthy, never having knee pain before... could this be related? | |

| I was just put on Levaquin last week to help clear up pneumonia like syptoms only after everything else failed. Within 1 hour of taking my first pill, I started feeling horrible. I started having severe chest pains, trouble breathing & swallowing, severe dizzines and muscle weakness and my blood pressure was starting to elevate. Called my doctor and she ordered me to go immediately to have a chest xray. By the time I arrived at the clinic, my sypmtoms were so bad I was sent immediately to the ER at local hospital. I made it My husband told them I had just recently been put on this medication and could I possibly be having an adverse reaction to the meds. It was never determined that that was the cause and I was released. The next day I called my doctor to tell them what had happened. I had to leave a msg. but after that I thought I would go ahead and take another Levequin because I was still trying to fight off the infection that I had. Within 1 hr. I started experiencing the same sypmtoms but this time I rode it out and did not go to the ER. Now two days after taking the last pill, I am having severe joint pain in my left hip and muscle weakness to the point I can barely move my leg. Not only that but I am very dizzy still and my eye sight is quite blurred. I was not having any of these symptoms until I started taking Levaquin. Can you tell me if I have any grounds for a law suit. | |

| I have been given Levaquin for cronic sinus infections over the last 4+ years, sometimes upto 3 times a year. It always took care of the infection quickly for which I was grateful. Today I saw for the first time a commercial in reguards to tendon damage from the use of Levaquin. I never put the amount of tendon, ligament and cartledge damage I have delt with over the years with an antibiotic. I have had tendonitius in both elbows several times, tendonitius in my right hand several times, three knee surgeries, including a recent ACL replacment. I have wondered for years why my connective tissue was so fragil. If I would have known this particular side effect, I would have never considered taking this drug. I quit running and all sports for fear that I might cause further damage. I am in good physical condition, eat right, and take my vitamins. If Levaquin is the source of my knee problems, tendonitius, etc..., I am really pissed that none of these side effects were shared with me before it took the medication. | |

| I have been given levaquin, cipro and avalox. I was having terrible foot pain and went to a foot specialist and she told me I have a stretch tendon in my foot. Now i wear orthotics in my shoes and have to wear shoes that you can tske to soles out of and put this in. They are expensive and hard to find. I'm thinking of changing to a natural doctor and trying a different way of treating my infections. | |

| I was givenLevaquin back in October for a sinus infection. My hands & feet are always tingly feeling & sometimes go numb. I have bad pain in my joints between my left big toe & foot that actually felt like it shot to my left knee. I was wondering if this was related to the Levaquin I took. | |
