One of these classes of antibiotics is known as the fluroquinolone class, which is a group of medications used generally to treat difficult infections, most commonly those that affect the urinary tract in patients. Until this class came about these infections tended to debilitate patients for long periods of time and were quite painful.
Levofloxacin is offered in the market as the brand names Levaquin, Cravit, and Tavanic.
Other brands for the ophthalmic solutions include Oftaquix, Quixin and Iquix.
One of the leading brand medications that has been introduced within this class is known as Levaquin. Levaquin was initially an extremely successful product both in terms of the revenue it produced and the percentage of success it enjoyed with patients. However, Levaquin has also recently come under fire from the FDA along with many other fluroquinolone antibiotics. Side effects of Levaquin inlclude tendon ruptures and other tendon type of injuries.
In July of 2008, the FDA issued a decree that ordered the makers of Levaquin to implement a black box warning addition to the production of the containers of the medication. This is the strongest step the FDA can take short of a recall, and the reason for this step was emerging reports of a startling number of patients developing side effects while or after taking Levaquin.
Hundreds of reports of patients experiencing these adverse effects reached the FDA, which prompted the step the government took. In particular, a ruptured Achilles tendon can take several months to overcome, and that’s only after an invasive and painful surgical and rehabilitative process.
If you are taking or have taken Levaquin and are experiencing any of the following:
Seek immediate medical attention and explain that you are taking Levaquin. It could be advisable to cease its use, but you should only do so at the advice of your doctor. If you or someone you love has been injured as a result of using this medication, contact a Levaquin attorney as soon as possible to schedule a free initial consultation, as you need to obtain an understanding of your legal rights and options.

| I have taken Levaquin several times over the past 8 years. The first rupture was in my left foot and the right foot followed two years later. The orthopedist said my left foot is damaged so bad it can not be repaired. Needless to say my life is now filled with pain and I take pain medicine daily with very little relief. | |

| I took a 10 day course of levaquin on three separate occasions. 08/07/2003... 08/02/2005... 01/23/2007. I've had my right elbow operated on in 2003, my left hand and left elbow operated on in 2007, and my left shoulder operated on in 2008. At present I am having problems with my right wrist that may require surgery. I have tried to contact someone regarding my eligibility for the levaquin class action lawsuit without much of a response. Could you please refer me to someone who would be willing to listen to my case and possibly file it on my behalf? -Phillip Gargus | |

| I only took this drug for one week, after it was prescribed by a pain management doctor who had injected me with botox in my back and my legs ended up swelling to four times their normal size and he said I had a urinary tract infection. The 2nd day of using this medicine I began to hallucinate, it was so bad that I almost took my life by shooting myself. A phone call from a friend is what stopped me. Now prior to this I had back problems and 12 knee surgeries. Since taking this my joint pain has went off the charts. I do not leave my house except to go to the dr's office. I can barely move and get around. I can't lift or bend my knees. When I wake up it take about a half hour before my joints will allow me to move to the bathroom. The scariest part of all of this was the hallucinations, I thought I had lost my mind and I still have nightmares and am afraid to take any new medications. Nothin like this had ever happened to me before and I pray to God above it never happens again because I know that my world will crumble and I will not survive this again. It is impossible to put into words what this did to me mentally, both then and now. Then to add the joint pain and the fear of ripping tendons on top of that is just too much. I know I injured one tendon on my left knee but was too scared to go for treatment so I just let it go using ice and over the counter meds like ibuprofen until I could walk again because I was afraid of what would happen to me if they prescibed new meds for me. Trust me, I know how ridiculous this sounds and that this is something I should have been able to left go but I live in constant fear of it happening again or ripping a tendon when I am alone at home. Is there anyone else who suffered from severe hallucinations from taking this drug? and is there anything I can take to make this fear go away? I also suffer from joint paint, tightness in joints, swelling of joints and lack of range of motion in joints. | |

| I was prescribed Levaquin propholactically during treatment for cancer to prevent any opportunistic infections. Now I have ankle pain, shoulder pain, and pain in my left forearm and left knee. I'm 34 years old, and I've been to my doctors, and seen specialists, and my mom told me about the Levaquin lawsuit commercial on tv on 4-17, and it sounds exactly like what I've been going through. | |
