Januvia Diabetes Drug Linked to Acute Pancreatitis.
Our lawyers and attorneys are actively seeking people who have been harmed, injured or have developed acute pancreatitis from taking the diabetes medicine called Januvia.
There may be a class action lawsuit forming with possible cash settlement claims for diabetes patients who were given Januvia.
What is Januvia?
Januvia is an orally administered diabetes medicine that can help to control blood sugar levels. It works by regulating the levels of insulin the body produces after eating.
Januvia are in tablets and contain a chemical compound called sitagliptin phosphate, an orally-active inhibitor of the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) enzyme.
Januvia is only for people with type 2 diabetes. It is sometimes used in combination with other diabetes medications, but is not for treating type 1 diabetes.
FDA Warning for Januvia
The FDA issued a warning to healthcare providers about diabetes drugs Januvia and Janumet, manufactured by Merck & Co., Inc. These drugs are in the class known as sitaglipins, and are designed to help treat patients with type-2 diabetes and type-2 diabetes mellitus.
Post-marketing surveillance reveals that the drugs may be associated with acute pancreatitis after reports of 88 patients experiencing that condition between October 2006 and February 2009.

| I was put on Onglyza and all was good for about 3 weeks. I started to get ab pains and ungoddly heart burn, to the point of taking over the counter med and chewing on tums. I then notice the skin rash and blood in my stool. I was told to discontinue taking the med and wait 5 days for it to clear out of my system. I had to go to a gastro doctor. After the doctor checked everything, she told me the Onglyza caused the problems. I have to get a scope done now to see if any damage was done. My family doctor is waiting to hear the findings and wants to "try" me on another type of med. This guinea pig will pass! | |

| I am a 47-year-old man and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes approximately 5 years ago. My Dr. began prescribing advandmet, after a few months, some pretty nasty side effects began to happen, he changed my medication to metformin, and over the years he continued to increase the milligrams to 2000mg per day until I was walking around in a daze, feeling lite headed, forgetful to the point of running stop signs/red lights etc., and I had a rash just below each knee that itched so bad that I would find myself bleeding from scratching so hard. he tried various creams/ointments to try to cure the rash, nothing worked, and my sugar level was never below 130 at best. 3 months ago I explained that either he prescribe something different or I was seeking a different Dr.- he started me on Januvia 100 MG(one pill a day) within 3 days my sugar level was and remained until I stopped taking it, between 100 and 120 (even after eating) Andâ??my rash started clearing up within days, but within 5 days after I started taking Januvia, I started having severe stomach pains that would not stop, even to the point of bringing me out of a deep sleep, (the cramps seemed to be at the top of my stomach area sometimes feeling like rubber balls rolling against each other, usually followed by a sharp cramp/pain that would go to and from the top of my stomach to just below my shoulder blades in my back, sometimes taking my breath away. My Dr. suggested that I was experiencing acid reflux, I explained that I had experienced that before and none of my symptoms were of that nature. he said that he had only heard good remarks and comments about Januvia, I explained that the stomach pain never occurred before I started taking this drug and that I was afraid to continue taking it. On June 28th 2010 he prescribed ONGLYZA 5mg to replace the Januvia, after I stopped taking Januvia, the stomach pain continued at the same level for about a week and seems to be getting less each day with an occasional sharp pain every now and then. My sugar level is back to the 130â??s but I think I will live with that rather than the pain. Please, If anyone has taken, or knows anyone that has taken this ONGLYZA and has had any side effects that takes time to develop, please let me know. I canâ??t wait till they find cure for this disease. | |

| I received an email regarding the side effects of Avandia and Januvia. I have taken both as well as Janumet and now Amaryl. The side effects for Januvia is pancreaitis, nausea and vomiting. I have been nausea with vomiting for quiet sometime. Every time I go to my dr. he just changes my diabetic meds, which doesnt work. I need more tests but cant afford to see a specialist. I would like to get some relief and find out exactly what is causing the nausea and vomiting. I have had an endoscopy but it was normal. | |
